Learning at Te Pae
At Te Pae, we build strong foundations through explicit teaching and give tamariki opportunities to explore, create and apply what they learn.
Te reo Māori and tikanga Māori are part of everyday life at our kura. Tamariki learn about local histories and mātauranga Māori, with connections developed alongside Te Kawerau ā Maki. Te Tiriti o Waitangi underpins our approach.
- Literacy: Structured approaches, including The Code, alongside rich reading, writing and oral language experiences.
- Mathematics: Teaching using PR1ME Mathematics and Ministry of Education approved resources.
- Play and inquiry: Purposeful learning experiences guided by intentional teaching and clear learning outcomes.
- Learning beyond the classroom: Education Outside the Classroom and opportunities to learn from our local environment.
- Across the curriculum: Technology, the arts, health and physical education, science and social sciences woven into meaningful learning.

Every learner brings different strengths and needs. We hold high expectations for all learners and recognise that the support and pathways they need to succeed will vary.
Kaiako will use assessment, observation and whānau knowledge to set meaningful, ambitious learning goals and provide appropriate support and challenge.
This may include explicit instruction, visual supports, assistive technology, movement and regulation breaks, alternative ways to show learning, extension opportunities and targeted interventions.
Families are encouraged to share information about neurodiversity, dyslexia, ADHD, disability, health, sensory needs, giftedness, language learning or previous support.
Early kōrero helps us plan a successful transition, build on each learner’s strengths and coordinate support with whānau and outside agencies where needed.
