Expressions of Interest are now open!
We welcome expressions of interest from whānau wishing to enrol their tamariki in Te Pae Rūmaki Reo, our Level 1 Māori immersion pathway.
Please note: Provisional enrolments are not yet open.
We are currently finalising the enrolment process and will notify all whānau who have submitted an expression of interest as soon as applications become available.
Expression of InterestRūmaki Reo Enrolment Process
Whānau interested in Te Pae Rūmaki Reo will follow the steps outlined below once provisional enrolments officially open.
Whānau interested in the Māori Language Pathway will follow the 5-step process below.
-
- Read the enrolment criteria to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements for enrolment.
- Complete the provisional enrolment form online.
- Participate in the Tono (interview) process, facilitated by the Kaiako Matua and/or Kawhakahaere.
- Applications are considered against the enrolment criteria and available places. If there are more applicants than there are places available, selection within the priority group must be by ballot. Priority will be given to in-zone students who meet the eligibility criteria.
- Successful applicants will be formally offered a place in the Rūmaki by either the Kaiako Matua or the Kaiwhakahaere.
You must then complete the Te Pae School Enrolment Form to finalise the process.
A “provisional enrolment” is not, by itself, confirmation of enrolment or placement until a position is formally offered to the ākonga and their whānau.
Rūmaki Reo Enrolment Criteria
Enrolment criteria for our Rūmaki are as follows:
-
- Entry into the Te Pae Rūmaki Reo will be through Tau 0-1 (Yr 0-1) only.
- At least one adult within the home must have some fluency in te reo Māori and also commit to growing their reo alongside their tamaiti.
- Te reo māori must be a spoken and living language within the home of the tamaiti.
- All tamaiti must be graduates of (have had at least 2 years) a kōhanga reo and/or puna reo, OR have been brought up in a reo-rich home. This ensures that New Entrant students will not feel disoriented by the practice of tikanga and will use spoken māori within the classroom environment.
- Tamaiti are able to engage in everyday conversation through the medium of te reo māori; this will be examined through the tono process.
- Parents/caregivers must take on an active role in their child’s education through regular attendance at hui whānau and whānau-planned school events/activities.
- Whānau commit to having their tamaiti attend school regularly and meet our school-wide attendance target.
Tono process
Entry into our Rūmaki Reo is guided by a process we call tono. This process
involves a kōrero between the applicant whānau, our kaiako and staff, and current
whānau representatives.
As part of the process, whānau will be shown around the kura and have the opportunity to experience our environment and learn more about our kaupapa.
The interview is designed to be a whakawhitiwhiti kōrero – a two-way conversation
where we can understand what whānau want for their tamariki and what they are
looking for from our kaupapa. It also gives both whānau and the kura an opportunity to consider whether we are the right fit for each other.
Our aim is to build strong, meaningful relationships from the outset and ensure that
whānau entering our pathway understand and connect with the kaupapa of our kura.
